AJ Bell’s Summer Bash: Glitter Balls, Stilt Dancers & Ice Cream, Oh My!
There are summer parties, and then there’s whatever AJ Bell threw last summer. When we (me Jo & John – aka the ER Photography crew) turned up to photograph their event, we knew we were in for a good time… but we weren’t quite prepared for how much pink, glitter, and pure joy was about to unfold.
We were booked in for a solid 3 hours, and from the moment we arrived, it was full throttle.
First off: Birdie. No, not a person – a dreamy little pink Mini Ice Cream Cart, complete with a personalised AJ Bell number plate, looking like it had driven straight out of a Wes Anderson film and into everyone’s hearts. People were queueing for scoops like it was the last gelato on Earth. Adults, mostly. No shame.
Then there were the stilt dancers – tall, fabulous and dipped head to toe in shades of pink and purple, gracefully towering over the crowd like disco flamingos. Every time we turned around, one of them was striking a pose, throwing shapes or twirling a small child like a glittery baton. We were obsessed.
But let’s not forget the glitter ball dancers. Think disco meets Ibiza, with just the right amount of sparkle. Sequins everywhere. Mirrorballs bouncing light across the crowd. And yes, at one point, someone did attempt to join in and very nearly pulled a hamstring. (We have photos.)
The cocktails were flowing, the buffet was plentiful (and photogenic, which you know we love), and the vibe? Absolute peak summer fun. Around 550 people came out for it which, let’s be honest, is a lot of faces to photograph in 3 hours, but we weren’t fazed. We split up, did our thing, caught all the best bits.
Massive thanks to AJ Bell for having us along it was one of those jobs that didn’t feel like work (though we definitely hit our step count for the week). If every Saturday afternoon looked like this, we’d never complain.
