The BAT Conference – ER Event Photography Style
If you’d told us we’d be dodging neon clad dancers in the dark while photographing a black-tie awards dinner… well, actually, that sounds exactly like our kind of event.
We had the absolute pleasure of being the official Conference Photographer Manchester dream team (yes, there were two of us, double the cameras, double the caffeine) for the incredible BAT Conference. And let us tell you, this event did not mess about.
Lights, speeches, action
The day kicked off with a sleek and professional conference setup, think stage talks, keynote speeches, and a few thousand cups of coffee. We were busy capturing every moment from every angle from the speakers commanding the spotlight to the candid in-between chats and high-level networking. One of us covered the wider room and audience reactions, while the other got in close on stage details and those animated moments that happen when someone’s truly passionate about what they’re saying.
(We’ve also learned that holding a camera makes you 70% more likely to be handed a microphone accidentally. No, we don’t want to say a few words, but thank you anyway.)
Then the lights went out…
And the dancers came on. In glowing, neon lit suits. We weren’t expecting a mid-conference rave, but honestly, we’re not mad about it. Photographing high-energy performers in pitch black with flashes of neon is a challenge but a fun one. Think lots of quick shutter decisions, a few ninja moves between tables, and some very cool shots we’re pretty proud of.
Evening glow-up: dinner, awards, and a whole lot of sparkle
After the conference wrapped, the venue had a full outfit change for the evening black-tie dinner and awards. The vibe switched from business brains to Bond-level glam in record time. We floated around capturing the award winners’ reactions (always wholesome), some very elegant toasts, and plenty of people trying to subtly check their reflection in their dessert spoons.
Entertainment in the evening didn’t disappoint either from live performances to surprise moments, there was no shortage of photo-worthy action. We split coverage to make sure no angle went unnoticed from dancefloor twirls to acceptance speeches.
